Job Description

  • The Head of School, often referred to as the principal or school director, is the top executive responsible for overseeing the overall operations and management of a school.
  • This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including educational leadership, administrative management, and community engagement.

Responsibilities
Here are the primary job responsibilities of a Head of School:
Educational Leadership:

  • Vision and Mission: Developing and articulating a clear vision and mission for the school, ensuring alignment with the school’s values and educational philosophy.
  • Curriculum Oversight: Overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s curriculum and educational programs.
  • Academic Standards: Ensuring high academic standards and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Student Achievement: Monitoring and promoting student performance and progress, addressing any gaps in achievement.

Administrative Management:

  • Staff Leadership: Hiring, supervising, and evaluating school staff, including teachers, administrative personnel, and support staff.
  • Professional Development: Promoting ongoing professional development and growth opportunities for staff.
  • Budget Management: Developing and managing the school budget, ensuring financial stability and effective allocation of resources.
  • Policy Implementation: Establishing and enforcing school policies, procedures, and protocols.

Operations and Facilities:

  • Operational Efficiency: Ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the school, including scheduling, facilities management, and safety protocols.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of school facilities and infrastructure.

Community Engagement:

  • Parent and Community Relations: Building strong relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Communication: Communicating effectively with all stakeholders, including students, staff, parents, and the community.

Strategic Planning:

  • Long-term Planning: Developing and implementing strategic plans for the school’s growth and development.
  • Goal Setting: Setting short-term and long-term goals for the school and regularly assessing progress towards these goals.

Student Well-being:

  • Student Services: Overseeing student support services, including counseling, health services, and extracurricular activities.
  • Behavior Management: Establishing and enforcing a code of conduct, promoting positive behavior, and addressing disciplinary issues.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring the school complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations and educational standards.
  • Accreditation: Maintaining school accreditation and preparing for accreditation reviews.

Crisis Management:

  • Emergency Preparedness: Developing and implementing emergency plans and procedures to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.
  • Crisis Response: Leading the school’s response to crises or emergencies, ensuring effective communication and action.

Board Relations (for Private Schools):

  • Board of Trustees: Working closely with the Board of Trustees, providing regular updates, and seeking approval for major decisions and initiatives.
  • Governance: Assisting the Board with governance matters and implementing Board policies.

Marketing and Enrollment (for Private and Independent Schools):

  • Admissions: Overseeing the admissions process, ensuring the school attracts and retains a diverse and talented student body.
  • Marketing and Public Relations: Leading marketing and public relations efforts to enhance the school’s reputation and visibility.

Qualifications

  • B.Ed with 8 – 14 years experience.
  • Master ‘s Degree.
